Child with Special Needs? Need Help?

Flyers Pic

Once you come to the realization that your child has special needs, it is important have support. It may not be easy at first, you may have feelings of shame or self blame, but the bottom line is, the more support you have, the better you feel about the situation. Trust me (Mason's Dad), I know from experience.

This support can come from family and friends, but you may still have the need to feel that there are others that share the way you feel. Finding others that share the same challenges that you have will really give you the mental boost that you feel you need. Joining support groups can do a great deal for your mental health and give you the feeling of acceptance that you yearn for. Surf the web, and you will find all types of support groups for the specific situation you are dealing with. My wife, Chrissy, for instance, joined a support group/blog for PMG that is on yahoo. You can even create your own support group if you choose.

Now, about your child. When it comes to your child, you want the very best for them. And to get them the very best isn't always as easy as it may be for a typical child. The cost for adaptions, wheelchairs, and different devices can be staggering. To help pay for some of these cost, do some research on some of the foundations that are in your area. If you live in the Tri-State Area, check out my Resources/Info page to learn more about some of the foundations that have helped us. These foundations can help you raise money for the needs that your child may have due to their disability. Be sure to check with your county as well to see if they have any money to help aid your situation.

Now, all of this can become a lot of work, I know. This is where the importance of a good social worker comes into play. Social workers can help find you resources and to get everything that your child deserves. Lastly, let's not forget the good old beef and beer. Beef and beers are a great way to raise money. You would be surprised how much support you will receive when you put together such an event. It will take a lot of time and effort, but, in the end, is well worth it.

I hope that this is useful information, and be sure to check out the whole site, it is packed with information. And if you have any suggestions or feel that you have insite that would be useful to the site or helping others in the same ordeal. Feel free to let us know.
